Did You Know Smiling Can Make You Healthier?

Lady Pointing at Her Smile

It has been stated by many health care professionals that smiling has a positive effect on your health.  Research has shown that there a number of health benefits contributed to smiling. In addition to improved health, smiling can have a distinctive positive affect on other areas of your life. When you smile and laugh, a number of physiological changes happen in your body, mostly without you being consciously aware of it happening.

  • Neurotransmitters called endorphins are released when you smile.  Endorphins are responsible for making us feel happy and less stressed.

  • Smiling is exercise!  Smiling exercises the body, replenishing the cells from a lungful of oxygen and gaining all the benefits of exercising the body.

  • Smiling creates a sense of wellness for you and others around you!  Smiling is an attractive expression.  A smile on your face helps to draw other happy people to you rather than push them away.  This will in turn will have a positive effect on your well-being.

  • Smiling can enhance your career!  A smiling, relaxed personality indicates confidence and an ability to cope well in demanding and stressful situations. This can be of benefit in your career, help build healthy relationships with colleagues, and will allow you to be seen in a favorable light by your employers.
